(COLDWATER) – Authorities have filed additional charges against a Branch County man in connection with an incident from earlier this month.

Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien says he has filed charges of aggravated stalking on victims, using a computer to commit a crime and malicious use of a telephone system against 22 year old McCain Snyder of Coldwater Lake.

These are in addition to two charges of assault with intent to murder, and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of a serious impairment crash.

According to Michigan State Police, it’s alleged on June 10 Snyder drove his pick up into the grass as he was headed out of Simco Drive in Kinderhook Township and struck 81 year old David Sluyter and his 77 year old wife Jill near their home. Troopers say the Sluyter’s were walking to the home of Snyder’s mother to let her know about accusations he made against them.

Troopers says the Sluyters told them that Snyder came to their home earlier on the day of the incident and accused them of sexually abusing their granddaughter. The granddaughter says the accusations of abuse are false, and she has never had any kind of relationship with Snyder.

Jill Sluyter has head and internal injuries along with a broken pelvis and back while David Sluyter has multiple fractures to his legs.

In addition to the new charges, Stempien says Snyder’s bond has been increased to $10.3 million. If he is able to post bond, Snyder is not to have any contact with the Sluyters or their granddaughter.

Branch County District Court officials say Snyder will have an examination for criminal competency.
