(LAKE COUNTY) – A Three Rivers man has been taken into custody in northern Michigan.
Lake County Sheriff Rich Martin says at 7:20 AM Tuesday, his office received a be on the lookout alert for a 36 year old Three Rivers man wanted for questioning in the death of an infant earlier in the day in St. Joseph County, and the individual may be heading to an address in Lake County. The alert said the deceased infant is believed to be the child of the individual and there may also be a 1 year old and a 3 year old in the vehicle.
Martin says shortly after 8 AM, a deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle on M-37 south of Baldwin. Deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle failed to yield. Stop sticks were put down and punctured the tires of the suspect vehicle. The driver kept going and eventually drove to his mother’s home on 40th Street, where he was taken into custody.
The two children in the vehicle were handed over to Child Protective Services.
Martin says the suspect never drove faster than 57 MPH and activated his emergency flashers while leading the pursuit.
The man is being held in the Lake County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding along with driving with a suspended license. He will be transferred to St. Joseph County for questioning and to address outstanding warrants.
