(CENTREVILLE) – The St. Joseph County Road Commission will start seasonal speed and weight restrictions on Friday.
John Lindsey, Road Commission Managing Director says the restrictions will be on all county roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission, with the exception of “All Weather” roads. The restrictions start at 6 AM on Friday and will remain in effect until further notice.
Seasonal speed and weight restrictions reduce normal truckloads by 35% and the speed to 35 MPH, depending on truck size and axle spacing. The 35 MPH speed restrictions also applies to empty trucks if they weight over 10,000 pounds. Agricultural commodities must adhere to the reduced speed, however no weight reduction is required.
County roads will be patrolled by certified weigh masters, and those violating the restrictions will be subject to fines. Special permits for designated routes during frost laws will be required. Gravel roads are not subject to Frost Laws.
