(UNDATED) – A pursuit that started in Northeast Indiana ended in Southwest Michigan.
Michigan State Police say the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department was in pursuit of a U-Haul Tuesday, driven by a 48 year old LaGrange man who had a felony warrant.
The U-Haul entered St. Joseph County where troopers successfully completed a stop stick deployment. The pursuit continued into Branch County on U.S. 12 and into Bronson where the suspect failed to stop for the Bronson Police Department.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office joined the chase according to Undersheriff Jason Bingaman. As the pursuit neared Batavia Road, more stop sticks were put down, and disabled the vehicle which went off the road near Wheeler Road.
The driver refused to get out of the vehicle and armed himself with a knife.
Officers were able to negotiate with the driver, who put the knife down and was taken into custody. The suspect was not injured during the incident. Seven dogs in the vehicle were also unharmed.
The LaGrange man is being held in the Branch County Jail on charges of flee and elude and multiple counts of resisting and obstructing.
