No. 4 Mt. Vernon (Fortville) beats Northridge 45-14 in 4A State Title Game
(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Northridge football team fell to No. 4 Mt. Vernon (Fortville) 45-14 in the 4A State Championship game. The Northridge offensive line was overwhelmed throughout the game, giving up 5 sacks and 11 total tackles for loss. The Mt. Vernon defense held the Raiders to 178 yards of total offense, with 93 of that coming on the ground. Mt. Vernon's quarterback, Gehrig Slunaker threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Northridge ends the season 10-5 while Mt. Vernon finishes the 2021 season at 14-1. Vince Liddy of Mt. Vernon becomes only the fifth first-year coach to win a state championship. The victory also makes Liddy and his father John, only the third father-son combination to win a state championship. They join Bud (Sheridan) and Kevin Wright (Warren Central, Carmel) along with Nick (Gibson Southern) and John Hart (Evansville Reitz, Warren Central)
