(STURGIS) - Plans for remodeling Trojans Timbers are starting to be talked about.
Recently the Sturgis City Commission held a work session to discuss the project. City Manager Andrew Kuk shares the preliminary plans for what would be done at the park, located on North Franks Avenue. Kuk says the project calls for replacing a majority of the structures and the surfaces as well. He says some of the elements may be saved and put back in the park, but most of the park will be a total replacement. (LISTEN ABOVE)
Kuk says in the current fiscal year $30,000 has been designated for designing the park and then another $500,000 has been set aside for the project. He says designing the park would take place in the first part of 2026, while fundraising would happen during the rest of the year.
Construction is set to begin in 2027.
Community input will be important during the design phase according to Kuk. He says there will be future engagement sessions planned to allow residents to get together and share their thoughts.
Parks and Cemetery Supervisor Jake Stevens told the Commission the City has contacted companies to get information on equipment for the park. He said there has also been preliminary talks about separating the park into areas for toddlers and school aged children.
