(STURGIS) - A longtime business in downtown Sturgis is closing their doors permanently.

Fiebig Jewelers announced this week that they are closing. The first Fiebig Jewelers was started in Jonesville in 1949 by Art and Ila Fiebig. Their son Jim opened the Fiebig Store in Sturgis in 1979. It was bought by Brad and Patty Rockey, the owners of Kiess Jewelry Store in Coldwater, in 2005.

Fiebig Store Manager Ted Modert spoke with Swick Broadcasting. He says he is retiring along with another employee and spoke with Rockey about what should be done. The discussion centered on closing the Sturgis store and still have the store open in Coldwater. (LISTEN ABOVE).

Modert says it's been a tough few days since the closing was announced. He says many of the customers have shared memories and some tears with the staff.

Fiebig's will remain open until May while the inventory is being liquidated.
