(CASSOPOLIS) - The Cass County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about an ongoing scam they have been made aware of.
The scammers call their victims and claim they have an outstanding warrant, missed jury duty or owe money to the court. They may even use the name and information of an actual law enforcement officer to make the call sound legitimate. They may even threaten to arrest the victim if they don't pay immediately.
The scammers demand payment be made using Chime cards or other prepaid and gift cards.
Sheriff's Office officials say law enforcement will not call anyone and demand payment for a warrant using Chime cards, gift cards, prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, or similar methods.
If you receive a call like this, do not send money or provide card numbers, PINs, or personal information. Simply hang up and do not call the number provided by the scammer.
