Sturgis falls to Coldwater 21-20 in OT

(STURGIS) - It was a close game from start to finish, but unfortunately the Sturgis football team fell to visiting Coldwater 21-20 in overtime in the season opener for both teams. It was the 101st meeting between the two long time rivals. Sturgis fumbled on their first possession leading to a Coldwater touchdown. Sturgis would respond with a Beckett Lamb 6 yard TD run and the score would be 7-6 Cardinals at the half. Sturgis would take the first lead of the game on a touchdown passed from Beckett Lamb to brother Hudson Lamb. However the Cardinals would get another touchdown pass from Dracyn Foster to tie it up. In overtime, Sturgis scored on a Cristian Alven 5 yard run and take a 20-13 lead on the extra point. Coldwater would score and then get a two point conversion for the 21-20 win. Coldwater is 1-0 with the win, but automatically improves to 2-0 with their forfeit win next week against Gull Lake who canceled their season. Sturgis is 0-1.
