(CONSTANTINE) - The Village of Constantine is searching for a new Police Chief, and another police officer.
Constantine Village Manager Jim Bontrager shared a letter on the Village's Facebook page announcing Police Chief Dan Thayer has submitted his letter of resignation.
In his letter, Thayer says his hope was to do what he could to strengthen and further increase the professionalism of the department as well as increase productivity.
Thayer says having never served in senior leadership in a department, he had much to learn. While Thayer says he did well in some areas, he unfortunately didn't do well in other areas. He says looking back in hindsight, he learned a great deal but regretfully made some mistakes that have strained relationships, which is something he never intended to do.
Thayer says he greatly appreciates the truest placed in him and the honor of serving the Village of Constantine.
Thayer started with the Village of Constantine in 2021. His last day will be October 22, but he will stay with the Department during the transition to help with training and preparing the new Chief.
Bontrager says Sergeant Adam Stark also ended his employment with the Constantine Police on Friday. He has been hired as the Police Chief in another village.
Bontrager says he is conducting interviews to fill both positions.
