Mendon Man Killed In Crash

(MENDON TOWNSHIP) – A Mendon man is dead following a two vehicle crash.

Michigan State Police say at 7:30 Monday morning, a 2002 Dodge Intrepid was traveling east on Prairie Corners Road and due to the heavy fog, missed a stop sign at Nottawa Road. The vehicle was struck by a southbound Dodge Journey.

The driver of the Intrepid, 60 year old Thomas Eugene Bell of Mendon, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 67 year old Betty Bell, was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo by Life Care Ambulance. Her condition has not been released.

The driver of the Dodge Journey, a 36 year old Portage man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and then released.

The crash remains under investigation. Assisting troopers were the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department, the Mendon Township and Centreville Fire Departments and the State Police 5th District Accident Reconstructionist.
