Felonious Assault Being Investigated

(GILEAD TOWNSHIP) – Michigan State Police are investigating a felonious assault that happened in Branch County's Gilead Township.

Troopers were called to a home on Mercury Road at 1 AM Sunday. Three men who know each other had been drinking when an argument started. The 58 year old home owner told one of the men to leave his home.

The suspect, a 62 year old man, was leaving, but had a knife in his hand, and slashed the home owner on the neck. The suspect then ran away from the area.

The victim called 911 to report the incident. He was then transported to Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne where he was treated for non life threatening injuries.

Troopers were able to locate the suspect and a witness to the incident, which remains under investigation. Michigan State Police were assisted in their investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department.
