(COLDWATER) – Sentence has been handed down to a woman for her involvement in sex crimes against children.

Branch County Circuit Court officials say 20 year old Jayme LaPoint of Athens was sentenced Monday to serve between 25 and 50 years. In July, she entered a guilty plea to a charge of first degree criminal sexual conduct involving a two year old child she was babysitting in July 2018. By entering the plea, three other charges including child abusive commercial activity; distribution and promotion of child abusive commercial activity and using computers to commit a crime were dismissed.

LaPoint also plead guilty to charges filed by the Michigan Attorney General's Office against her and three other individuals of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and conspiracy to commit first degree criminal sexual conduct. She and the other individuals were arrested following an investigation into a plan to kidnap, rape and kill a child at random.

LaPoint was given concurrent sentences with credit given for 405 days served. If she gets out of prison, she must wear an electronic monitor for life and register as a sex offender.
