(UNDATED) – The Cass County Sheriff's Department is investigating a pair of crashes that happened Friday.

The first was at 4:20 PM. Deputies say 17 year old Brad Lintz of Niles was driving north on Anderson Road near Yankee Street in Howard Township when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree. There were two other people in the vehicle and one was ejected in the crash.

Lintz and his passengers were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Deputies say none of the individuals were wearing their seatbelts and speed appears to be a factor in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the Edwardsburg Ambulance Company and the Howard Township Fire Department.

Then at 9:44 PM, deputies were sent to a crash in Pokagon Township. 17 year old Hunter Williamson of Dowagiac were driving south on M-51 near Saddlebred Lane and was preparing to turn left into a driveway when he was rear-ended by 41 year old Todd Martine of Dowagiac.

Williamson and his passenger, 18 year old Dashawn Brooks were taken by family members to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac. Martine was taken by ambulance to Borgess Lee Hospital.

Seatbelts were worn by all the individuals, and alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash.

Helping Deputies were the Dowagiac and Pokagon Tribal Police Departments along with the Michigan State Police, the Pokagon Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance.
