(CONSTANTINE) – The Village of Constantine is looking at changing the length of terms of the Village Council members.

During Monday's meeting, Village Manager Mark Honeysett presented a draft ordinance that would expand Council members terms to four years. Honeysett explains how it would work if it is approved. ...... {LISTEN}.

By making this change, Honeysett is hoping that more people would be encouraged to run for the Council, since the terms would be for four years instead of two years.

In a related matter, Honeysett also presented an ordinance that would give the Village Council the ability appoint a Clerk and a Treasurer instead of having these positions elected.

Honeysett shares why this proposal is being brought before the Village Council. ...... {LISTEN}.

The Village Council voted unanimously to hold two public hearings during their October 21 meeting to get community input on both of these proposals.
