Recall Petition Filed Against Constantine School Board Member
By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, November 14, 2019

(CENTREVILLE) – A recall petition has been filed against a member of the Constantine School Board.

St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald says the petition was filed Wednesday morning by Marge Caid, who is asking for the recall of School Board member Syntia Salisbury.

On the recall petition, Caid says Salisbury violated a School Board policy of Board member ethics, which states that a school board member will avoid being placed in a position of conflict of interest and refrain from using their Board positions for personal partisan gain.

Caid says that during the Constantine School Board meeting on Monday, October 21, Salisbury failed to recuse herself from a discussion on the contract of boys basketball coach Travis Walker, which was a violation of the policy. Caid also says Salisbury's family members made complaints about Walker to the Board during public comment times

Caid further says Salisbury failed to disclose that she had participated in a private parent meeting to discuss the complaints about Walker, and voted to end his contract as boys basketball coach.

Oswald says the County Election Commission will hold a clarity/factuality hearing on November 25 at 2 PM to consider the language.
