Michigan Jobless Rates Little Changed In October
By: Mike Stiles - Saturday, November 16, 2019

(LANSING) – Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was essentially unchanged for the month of October.

According to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, the October unemployment rate dropped by one-tenth of a percent to 4.1 percent. By contrast, payroll jobs fell sharply by 22,000, or one half of a percent. That was largely due to a strike in the auto industry.

Jason Palmer, Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information And Strategic Initiatives, says the largest drops in employment were in manufacturing: transportation equipment and non farm payroll jobs. Slight increased were recorded in Leisure & Hospitality Services and Trade, Transportation & Utilities manufacturing.

The October 2019 jobless rate of 4.1 percent was a tenth of a percentage point above Michigan's October 2018 rate.
