(CALVIN TOWNSHIP) – A stolen vehicle was recovered following a two state pursuit.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was alerted to a stolen vehicle at 6:40 AM Sunday by the Elkhart County Dispatch. Indiana authorities told the Cass County Sheriff's Department the vehicle's owner had left it warming up when the suspect allegedly took it. The owner was tracking it through GPS.

Cass County authorities located the vehicle and tried to stop it. The suspect fled from deputies, driving through the Village of Vandalia, going back into Indiana and then returning to Michigan. The vehicle finally ran out of gas and the driver surrendered to deputies on Calvin Center Road near Chain Lake Street in Calvin Township.

The suspect's name is being withheld pending their arraignment. The suspect is facing similar charges out of Indiana. Assisting in the pursuit was the Michigan State Police along with the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Behnke would like to remind everyone of the risks of warming their vehicles and leaving them unattended during the winter season.
