Suspects In Cass County Hostage Situation Arraigned

(CASSOPOLIS) – Two individuals arrested following a hostage situation have been arraigned.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says 41 year old Adam Neiman of Niles was charged with kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, second degree child abuse, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault of a police officer, resisting and obstructing of a police officer, felony firearms during the commission of a felony, fourth degree child abuse along with a notice to charge him as a third offense habitual offender. He is being held without bond.

Also arraigned was 41 year old Clemie Chapman of Niles. She is charged with resisting and obstructing justice, with bond was set at $5,000.

At 1:35 PM Wednesday, members of the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team and the U.S. Marshal's Service went to a residence in the 33,000 block of Redfield Street in Cass County's Milton Township.

FAST members went to the residence to gain further information or to locate Neiman, who was wanted on a petition of revocation of bond and two charges of failure to appear.

Officers found both Neiman, Champan and a young child inside the residence. Neiman showed a firearm, and officers established a perimeter around the house.

Local Michigan authorities were called in for assistance. After several hours of talking with Neiman, the child was released from the house at 11 PM.

At 3:32 AM Thursday, a tactical team entered the house through the attached garage door and arrested Neiman and Chapman.
