One Person Killed In Branch County House Fire

(KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP) – A house fire Tuesday morning in southern Branch County claimed the life of a woman.

According to Fox 17, the fire happened on 1005 West Shore Drive, which is on the northwest side of Lake George. The woman, who was in her 70's, is believed to be the homeowner. Michigan State Police confirmed the death of a female, but have no further information at this time. Her name is not being released until family members are notified.

Branch County Central Dispatch says that the fire was reported at 5:20 AM and that the Lakeland Fire Department was the first to arrive. They immediately called for back up after seeing the house fully engulfed in flames. The Bronson and Fremont, Indiana Fire Departments responded.

The fire was finally brought under control at 7:50 AM. A cause for the blaze is still under investigation. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division is assisting in trying to find out how the fire started.
