Alcohol A Possible Factor In Fatal Crash
By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, January 16, 2020

(CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP) – Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor in a fatal two vehicle accident.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Brad Balk says his deputies were sent to the intersection of U.S. 131 and Riverside Drive in Constantine Township just after 7 PM Wednesday to investigate an accident.

Deputies say that a pickup that had two women, ages 27 and 31, and a 36 year old Elkhart man, turned south in the northbound lane of U.S. 131. It collided with a semi, driven by a 64 year old Goshen man. The semi driver attempted to avoid the collision, but was not able to do so.

One of the occupants of the pick up died from their injuries. The other two occupants were taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment. The semi driver was not injured.

The matter is still under investigation.
