(CENTREVILLE) – St. Joseph County Treasurer Judy Ratering will not be seeking re-election for her position this year.
During Tuesday's St. Joseph County Commission meeting, Ratering announced that she will not seek a third term and will retire when her current term ends December 31.
Ratering started with the Treasurer’s Office in 1990 and served as the Deputy Treasurer for 11 years. She left for a private sector job and then came back to the department in 2012. When Phyllis Bainbridge retired later that year, Ratering was appointed to the Treasurer’s position out of a group of eight individuals by a statutory committee.
In the Fall of 2012, Ratering was elected to her first four year term as County Treasurer by the voters.
Ratering endorsed her Chief Deputy Kathy Humphreys to become the next County Treasurer. Humphreys has been with the department for 15 years and has already filed her paperwork to run in the August primary election.
