(BATAVIA TOWNSHIP) – Fire destroyed a barn in Batavia Township, but a house was saved.

The Bronson Fire Department was called to 528 West Colon Road at 8:18 Monday night. Fire Chief Scott Wilber says they arrived and found a 28 by 32 foot wood barn on fire. They also noticed that the vinyl siding on the house close to the barn was starting to melt. Fire crews were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the house.

The Union City and Sherwood Fire Departments were called in to provide mutual aid. Also assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police and Life Care Ambulance.

Investigators say the fire appears to be electrical in nature. The barn and it's contents were estimated to be worth $30,000. The damage to the house is estimated to be $5,000.
