(BUTLER TOWNSHIP) – Thursday was a busy morning for the Quincy Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to 1275 Jonesville Road at 7:45 AM for a building fire. Fire Chief Michael Sherman says his crew arrived and found a two story house and two nearby barns on fire. Several lines were put into action along with a ladder pipe. A call for mutual aid was put out, with the Coldwater, Allen and Litchfield Fire Departments responding.

After three and a half hours, the fires were finally put out. Sherman says the roof burned off the house, but firefighters were able to salvage and save many of the belongings and family heirlooms that were inside.

Sherman says their investigation showed that fire started in the house from a wood stove and then spread to the barns. The blaze also caused a 55 gallon gasoline drum that was stored in one of the barns to explode. The fire is determined to be accidental in nature.

No injuries were reported and no damage estimates were released.
