(LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP) – A woman is behind bars after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says at 1:15 PM Friday, his deputies were sent to the 57,000 block of Oak Park Road in Lockport Township, to investigate a man being stabbed by his girlfriend.

When deputies arrived, they learned the couple had been arguing over the victim using the suspect's car to go to work. The man returned the vehicle at his girlfriend's request and handed her the keys. The woman started yelling at the man, who took shelter in the car.

The woman eventually got into the vehicle and struck the man in the back of the head three times. She then got out and got back in through the driver's side door and started trying to get the man out of the car. The woman reached into her pants pocket and removed a pocket knife and then stabbed the man under the left forearm.

The victim was taken to the Three Rivers Health Emergency Room where he was treated and released.

The suspect was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on charges of felonious assault and domestic assault.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police and the Three Rivers Fire Department.
