(STURGIS) – Sturgis High School was finally able to hold their graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Sunday.

While SHS has held outdoor graduations in the past, this year was a first. Instead of having graduation on the football field, the 2020 ceremony was held on the drive in front of the High School. It was also held in on again, off again light rain and drizzle. And because of Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Executive Order limiting the number of people at an outdoor gathering to 100, it was done in segments instead of all the graduates together at one time.

The ceremony started at 1 PM and the Class of 2020 was broken into groups alphabetically. Students had their names read as they walked in their cap and gown across a stage and received their diploma. The school utilized an FM system that allowed people in vehicles to hear the ceremony.

Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert was on hand to help with the ceremony and said despite all the factors that could have been problems, the graduation was going well. ...... {LISTEN}.

While this year's graduation did not allow for some of the traditional moments, Ebert says it did have a more intimate feel to it. ...... {LISTEN}.

The school had pop up tents for families to stand under to get out of the rain to watch their children get their diplomas.
