(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – A suspect was located with the help of Cass County K-9 Officer Faust.

Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was called to the 14,000 block of Hideaway Road in Porter Township at 1:30 Saturday morning to investigate a domestic assault. When deputies arrived, they discovered the suspect, a 28 year old Vandalia man, ran out the back door of the residence into a large wooded area.

K-9 Officer Faust was brought to the scene and tracked the suspect, locating him in the woods.

The suspect was taken to Ascension Borgess Hospital in Dowagiac to be treated for injuries sustained in the incident. The man was then taken to the Cass County Jail and charged with a second offense of domestic assault with strangulation and resisting arrest.

The matter remains under investigation.
