(COLDWATER) – A Florida man charged with murder has had his case bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.

District Court officials say a preliminary hearing for 33 year old Raiko Moreira-Gonzalez was held, which led to the matter being moved to Circuit Court. Gonzalez is charged with open murder in the death of 35 year old Juan Uresti-Rodriguez of Texas. Gonzalez, who plead not guilty, is being held without bond.

Court officials say testimony revealed the two men worked at Clemens Food Group and were living at the Quality Inn of Coldwater along with other employees of the pork processing business.

Coldwater Police were called to the Quality Inn at 3 AM on June 13 after receiving a 911 call. They found Rodriguez, unresponsive inside his motel room. He had been stabbed in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses provided a description of Gonzalez, who had left the hotel. Michigan State Police spotted his car on U.S. 12 west of Quincy. Troopers took Gonzalez into custody and found evidence related to the stabbing in his car.

Investigators say the two men had been drinking and got into an argument before Rodriguez was stabbed.

Gonzalez will have a pre-trial conference on September 14.
