(INDIANAPOLIS) – Five farms in Northeast Indiana have been named the latest recipients of the Hoosier Homestead Award.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. It also honors families who have made significant contributions to Indiana agriculture.

Receiving the Centennial Award for 100 years of ownership were the Teeters-Notestine Farm in LaGrange; the Gallup Farm in Noble County and the Getts Farm in DeKalb County. Receiving both the Centennial and the Sesquicentennial Award for 150 years were the Shive-Balliet Farm in Noble County and the Justus Butler Farm in Steuben County.

In addition to being in the family for at least 100 years, to be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must also consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year. There is also a Bicentennial Award for 200 years of ownership.
