(UNDATED) – Two St. Joseph County Schools announced Wednesday that some students who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
In a posting on the Colon Community Schools Facebook page, Superintendent Penny Brockway said two students at Colon Elementary School have been diagnosed as a probable positive case for COVID-19. This requires the individuals to be isolated and those within close contact to be quarantined for 14 days under the guidance of the health department.
Brockway says they contacted the local health department, interviewed staff and have determined who has been in close contact with the students. Those individuals will also be quarantined for 14 days from the point of symptoms. The physical spaces will be closed and deeply cleaned before continued use.
White Pigeon Superintendent Jon Keyer shared a letter on the District's website that one individual at Central Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was last in the building on September 10. While they can't know with certainty, Keyer says it appears the individual contracted the virus outside of school from another family members.
Keyer says the school district has worked with the local health department to identify close contacts and are notifying them. The district is also continuing to execute proper cleaning procedures.
Both Brockway and Keyer says school for both Colon and White Pigeon will continue as normal. If anyone has questions, they can contact Brockway and Keyer for more information.
