(UNDATED) – Area first responders rescued two individuals from a St. Joseph County waterway.
The Colon Community Fire and Rescue says they were called out at 11:36 AM Friday to help the Leonidas Fire Department to assist with a water rescue emergency. In addition to the Colon Fire Department, the Mendon Fire Department and St. Joseph County Dive Rescue provided boats to locate and rescue five individuals in Nottawa Creek off of the St. Joseph River.
Because of the strong current from the elevated water levels, and the amount of deadfall in the creek, crews had an extended response time reaching the individuals. When first responders arrived, three of the five had made it safely to shore on their own, while the remaining two people were removed from the water by first responders.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
