
Southern Michigan Unemployment Rates Increase In January

(LANSING) – Southern Michigan counties saw an increase in their unemployment from December to January.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says St. Joseph County had the largest increase in the area going from 5% to 6.3%.
Cass County went from 5.3% to 6.1% while Hillsdale County jumped from 5.5% to 6.2%.
Branch County had an unemployment increase from 4.7% to 5.2%.
Statewide the unemployment rate rose from 5% to 5.9%.
The lowest unemployment rate in Michigan during January was Livingston County at 3.8%, up from 3.3% in December. The highest unemployment rate was Mackinac County at 21.6%, which is an increase from 17.9%.
