(STURGIS) – A 35 year old man has been arrested after authorities found a female body in his apartment.
Director Of Public Safety Geoffrey Smith says at 11:10 PM on May 22, Sturgis Police were dispatched to the 200 block of North Maple Street to investigate an anonymous tip that a man was storing the body of a woman inside his apartment. Officers made contact with the man and were given consent to search the residence.
Police found evidence that led to the activation of the St. Joseph County Major Crimes Task Force, and then executed a search warrant at the home. The 35 year old man was arrested and charged with open murder, dismemberment of a corpse and failure to report a death.
Smith says Sturgis Police continue to investigate this case and are withholding all names until next of kin has been notified
