Two New Faces Elected To Sturgis City Commission

(STURGIS) – There will be two new faces on the Sturgis City Commission.

Voters turned out in what is being called record numbers to cast ballots in the City of Sturgis for the Mid Term Elections on Tuesday. There were five seats on the City Commission that were asked to be decided by the public.

One of these seats was in the Second Precinct. Justin Wickey was elected with 302 votes. The Write In Candidate, who officially was Dray Perkins, received 35 votes. Those votes will have to be certified by the County Board of Canvassers.

Wickey will take the seat previously held by Chuck Huber, who announced he would not be seeking re-election.

In the Third Precinct, Suzanne Malone will take over the seat previously held by her husband Kenneth. She received 330 votes to win the race. The Write In Candidate, who officially was Brian Rice, received 45 votes. Those too will have to be certified by the County Board of Canvassers.

In the First Precinct, incumbent Commissioner Jeffery Mullins was re-elected with 706 votes. The Write In Candidate, officially Debra Clutter, received 136 votes.

In the race for one of the Fourth Precinct seats, incumbent Karl Littman won re-election by receiving 506 votes. The official Write In Candidate, Mitch Furr, received 55 votes. Both Clutter and Furr's votes will also have to be certified.

In the race for the At Large Commission seat, incumbent Commissioner Jon Good defeated former Commissioner Michael Gay 1137 to 1095.

The Board of Canvassers will meet in the next 24 hours to certify the votes.
