(EAST LANSING) - Almost exactly a month after landing Emoni Bates, the top-rated high school basketball player in the country, the Michigan State men's basketball team has added another five-star recruit to their 2022 class. Enoch Boakye, a 6 foot 10, 240 pound junior from Mississauga, Ontario, and the No. 1 ranked player in Canada, announced his commitment on Instagram to the Spartans on Tuesday. Boakye, the No. 18 player in the 2022 class according to 247Sports, was widely projected by analysts to commit to MSU. After taking off his jacket to reveal a green Michigan State basketball shirt and thanking the coaching staff, he announced his goal for when he officially enrolls and joins the team. He averaged 13 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks per game during his sophomore season at George Harris Prep. He described himself as a high-motor player who can protect the rim, rebound, save possessions and do whatever it takes to win. Boakye adds to what has been a hot recruiting month for head coach Tom Izzo. Max Christie, the No. 1 shooting guard in the 2021 class and 13th-ranked player in the country, committed to Michigan State a week after Bates. And 2021 four-star guard Pierre Brooks committee in April. Boakye said the possibility of playing alongside Bates was a factor in his decision.
