(BRONSON TOWNSHIP) - A man is in custody after a vehicle pursuit and a foot chase in Bronson Township.
Branch County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says at 2:17 AM Thursday a deputy saw a vehicle operating with an improper license plate and committing a lane violation in the area of Orland Road near Slisher Road. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling north.
The suspect vehicle passed another motorist, swerved across the roadway, and crossed into the wrong lane before coming to a stop. The driver got out of the vehicle and ran away. After a brief foot pursuit, the deputy used a taser and took the suspect into custody.
The man is a 27 year old Mexican national who was unlawfully present in the United States. He was taken to the Branch County Jail on felony charges and he is also being held for immigration enforcement.
