(BRONSON) - Due to the continued stretch of extreme cold, the City of Bronson is extending the "Run Water Advisory" through Monday, February 2nd.

Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman says the City is urging all residents to remain proactive to avoid the high cost and damage of frozen or burst pipes, both inside and outside the home.

To prevent your lines from freezing, please keep a continuous, pencil-sized stream of water running from a single faucet, preferably a bathtub faucet. While not a total guarantee, keeping water moving is the most effective way to stop ice from forming in your pipes.

Please monitor your water for these signs of potential freezing: A sudden, noticeable decrease in your water flow; Water that starts appearing rusty or cloudy; and Water that feels exceptionally cold, which would be below 35 degrees.

Risk factors for frozen water lines include homes with a history of the water service freezing; homes with smaller water service lines, and customers whose water service line travels under the street or driveway to the home or building. These homes are at a particularly high risk for freezing pipes.

Residents can determine if water service lines run under the street by locating the nearest fire hydrant to a home. If the nearest hydrant is on the opposite side of the street from one's home, the service line likely runs under the street.

Mersman says as a reminder, the City will review billing adjustments on a case-by-case basis based on your previous usage history.
