(STURGIS) - The Community recently had the opportunity to find out more about next week's Sturgis Public Schools' bond proposal.

On April 23, Sturgis Schools Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert hosted an informational presentation at the Sturgis District Library, with 35 people in attendance.

If the bond passes it would generate $98,475,000 over 30 years.

Ebert says one of the first questions he is asked about the proposal is will it increase taxes if it's approved. He says that is not the case. Ebert says if the proposal passes the property tax rate would remain at 7 mills. It would be extended out at the current rate. (LISTEN ABOVE).

Presently, Sturgis Public Schools maintains over 600,000 square feet of school buildings and 200 acres of property. To give a perspective, Ebert shares what it would cost to replace all of the school districts' facilities. Including all parking lots, buildings, the bus garage and everything else, Ebert says the cost would be $417 million.

Polls will be open Tuesday May 5 from 7 AM until 8 PM. All registered voters in the Sturgis School District will cast their ballots at the Sturges-Young Center For The Arts.
