(STURGIS) - Residents in the Sturgis School District voted down a millage proposal on Tuesday.

The question many people are now asking is, "What's the next step for Sturgis Public Schools?".

During a visit on the WBET Morning Show Wednesday, Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert says while the millage being voted down was not the result they were looking for, this is a learning experience.

Ebert says personally and as a District they like to take some risks. He says they like to do big things for kids and he would rather swing and miss instead of not swinging at all, and that's okay. Ebert says it's good to teach kids that it's okay to have different things happen and to learn from them and adjust. He says based on the results of the election, Sturgis Schools clearly need to adjust.

In the election there were 1501 NO votes cast and 1277 YES votes in the Sturgis School District, which includes all four City precincts along with Fawn River, Sherman, Sturgis and Burr Oak Townships.

Ebert says he sees the next step is to find out what people think about the proposal. He says there were many individuals that the schools engaged with during the process. Ebert says he personally wants to hear from people who had issues with the proposal and find out what they do support and do not support. (LISTEN ABOVE).

Ebert says no time line has been set on when this will begin.
