(BRANCH COUNTY) - A Battle Creek man wanted on a parole absconding warrant is behind bars after a two-hour standoff with Branch County deputies late Tuesday night. Sheriff's officials say deputies went to a home on Arney Road around 10:30 p.m. after learning the suspect was hiding inside. When officers made contact, the man refused to come out, prompting the call-in of the St. Joseph Valley Special Response Team. After more than two hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without injuries. He's now lodged in the Branch County Jail on his outstanding warrant, and prosecutors are reviewing the case for possible additional charges. LifeCare Ambulance, Sherwood Fire Department, the Special Response Team, and Central Dispatch assisted at the scene.
