(COLDWATER) - A man arrested following a standoff in Sherwood Township was in court on Wednesday.

Branch County District Court online records show that Matthew Callahan of Battle Creek is officially charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer after he allegedly made several threats during the standoff Tuesday night.

The Branch County Sheriff's Office responded to a camper in the 1000 block of Arney Road at 10:28 PM Tuesday, after receiving information that a man with an outstanding parole absconding warrant was hiding at the location. Deputies arrived and made contact with Callahan, who initially gave a false name. He was identified by officers and allegedly made multiple threats.

The St. Joseph Valley Special Response Team was called in to assist with the situation.

After two hours, Callahan came out of the camper and was taken into custody.

Online court records say that Callahan is a habitual offender with prior felony convictions of possession of a controlled substance, weapons offenses and resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Callahan is being held in the Branch County Jail with bond set at $50,000. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on December 17.
