(LAGRANGE) - LaGrange County Area Transit is asking for an increase in their 2027 budget.

During last week's meeting, LaGrange County Council On Aging Executive Director Cheri Perkins presented information on LCAT to the LaGrange County Commission. Perkins shares some information on the number of riders LCAT assisted last year. She says LCAT provided rides to approximately 40,000 people last year, with 85% of those riders were being taken to work and are paying to ride this bus. She says this is important to the community.

Perkins says one of the issues LCAT is facing is the budget got cut, but the need for the service continues to grow. She says that's why they are asking for an increase in their funding.

Perkins says she knows the Commissioners do what they have to do, and with the budget cut the number of users keep going up. The budget was cut to $40,000 and she would love to see it return to $65,000. (LISTEN ABOVE)

The County Commissioners say they will do what they can to help LCAT get more funding.
