(LANSING) - Statewide early in-person voting begins today across Michigan.
Every Michigan community offers at least nine days of early voting before Election Day, and some offer more. Michigan voters made early voting a right in the State Constitution in 2022, so it can't be undone without another statewide vote.
There are some matters that every Michigan voter should know. First, Michigan's process is open to observers. Any member of the public who isn't running for office can informally observe voting as long as they don't disrupt the process.
Second, every precinct is staffed by poll workers from both political parties. From the moment polls close to final certification, every count, seal and certification requires representatives from both parties working together.
Third, Michigan uses paper ballots statewide, which are the record of the vote. Paper ballots stay sealed and trackable in case a recount, audit or legal challenge needs them, and tabulators are not connected to the internet while votes are being cast or counted.
A reminder that no results can be released before polls close at 8 PM on November 3.
Voters in St. Joseph County can cast their early ballots at the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office Training Center 602 East Main Street in Centreville. Hours are today and Sunday from 9 AM until 5 PM, and then Monday from 7 AM until 6 PM.
