(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana lawmakers are considering legislation that would ban cell phones and other wireless devices in schools.

The idea is to establish a consistent policy across the state.

Those who support the bill say the proposal is designed to address the growing concerns about the impact of cell phone use on student learning, classroom focus and mental health.

The measure has already received testimony in the Senate Education

Committee, though lawmakers have not yet taken a vote on the proposal.

The bill includes several exceptions, allowing device use for students with disabilities, medical needs, emergencies, and language access.
