(CENTREVILLE) – A Cass County woman has been sentenced for arson that happened at the Three Rivers Wal Mart Store.
St. Joseph County Circuit Court officials say 35 year old Fawn Mott of Dowagiac was sentenced to between two and a half and ten years in prison for the 2014 fire. She was given credit for 603 days served.
On June 23, 2014, security cameras at the Three Rivers Wal Mart captured Mott loitering in the store. She was seen using a notepad to start a fire in the hardware department of the store. Sprinklers came on and put out the blaze. The building sustained water and smoke damage.
Mott was seen leaving the store in her truck. She was arrested three months later. After being found competent to stand trial, Mott plead no contest to the arson charge. She was sentenced under the Swift and Sure Sanction probation program. But while on probation in 2017, she tried to steal items from a store. She ran away but was arrested and found to be in possession of drugs.
In addition to the arson sentence, Mott was also sentenced to a term of one and half to five years for the retail fraud charge, along with one and a half to ten years for possession of meth and one and a half to two years for resisting arrest.
