(ANGOLA) – Authorities say a woman has been arrested in connection with a crash that killed a woman.

Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says on Thursday, Sheriff’s Detectives apprehended 60 year old Mary A. Ridenour of Rome City on a felony charge of reckless homicide in connection with a crash that happened September 1.

On that date, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was called to County Road 100 South near the Steuben/LaGrange County Line in Steuben County’s Jackson Township.

Deputies determined that a UTV driven by 73 year old Denny Northup of LaGrange was heading east on County Road 100 South before making a U-Turn in a private driveway. As Northup came back into the roadway heading west, an SUV driven by Ridenour crested a small hill. She swerved but struck the UTV, causing it to overturn, and both Northup and his passenger, 71 year old Carol Northup were ejected. Ridenour’s SUV went off the road, struck a utility pole and then overturned.

Ridenour was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Northups were flown from the scene by Samaritan and Med Flight helicopters. Carol Northup suffered a head injury and despite all medical treatment measures, died from her injury.

Denny Northup suffered a broken leg.

The incident was investigated by the Steuben County Fatal Crash Team, which lead to an arrest warrant being issued by the Steuben Superior Court. Ridenour was arrested without incident in Rome City and is being held in the Steuben County Jail without bond.
