(NEWBERG TOWNSHIP) – Cass County authorities are investigating a suspicious death.

Sheriff Clint Roach says his department were called to do a welfare check in the 11,000 block of Born Street in Newberg Township at 8 AM on October 16. After several knocks on the door that were not answered, deputies were able to look inside the house and saw a man on the floor in the kitchen.

Deputies tried to get into the house, but there were several dogs that stopped them. Cass County Animal Control was called to the scene and helped to remove the dogs.

When deputies entered the house, they were able to determine the man in the kitchen was dead.

They also found a woman who had injuries. She was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital.

The matter is still under investigation.
