(INDIANAPOLIS) - November SNAP food benefits will be delayed at least a week for 274,000 Indiana households that receive the help. The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) reports it's been directed to recalculate benefits using a revised formula to determine the maximum amount of benefits each household will receive. SNAP benefits are typically calculated by assuming the average recipient spends 30% of household income on food. The revised formula will subtract 30% from recipients net income from the federally determined amount. The order came from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS).
